The Story

Danger Zone is iQiyi’s first prison-themed Chinese language series. The 24-episode series centers on a psychological profiling expert named Yan-dong Liang who is imprisoned because of a violent abuse incident. To turn the case around, he makes a deal with the police captain Chong-hui Tang and rookie police officer Fei Ran, but this ends up setting off a series of lethal crises and mysteries.

The Cast

Vic Chou plays the profiling expert Yandong Liang — a crisis-surrounded attorney “who’s been accused of being involved in a series of unconventional cases. Aside from being suspected of being a serial disembodiment killer, he’s also physically abused in prison, with people sending him death threats.

Veteran actor Christopher Lee takes on the role of police captain Chong Hui Tang. During the press conference, he describes his character as “a very strong and very outgoing” person who focuses on social justice and catching all the bad guys.

Other important members of the cast include Berant Zhu as the rookie police officer Fei Ran, and Sandrine Pinna as Yu-lu Yang, the vice police director who must also help solve the crime before the serial killer strikes again.

What To Expect from the Drama

Aside from its cast of amazing and talented stars, the audience can also expect Danger Zone to tackle themes that involve criminal sexual abuse, the discovery of infant corpses, as well as headless female corpses — all of which are said to be “groundbreaking aspects” of the series.

The actors also talked a lot about pushing their limits in the drama, especially Vic Chou, who did all his stunts himself and without a stunt double. Asked about the scene which impressed him the most in the drama, the actor talked about a car accident scene which was a “very intimidating experience” for him. Delving more into the subject, he said: “The crane can actually pick up and spin the whole car. So when I was in the filming process, it was very difficult.”

Christopher Lee, on the other hand, talked about his chemistry with his team members when he was asked about the scene that stood out to him the most. “I remember several scenes in the police station because my [character] is very close with [his] team members,” he said. “There was a scene that my role has some confrontations and frictions with the team members. So the team is really bound together so that everyone had to be united as a team.”

Lastly, there’s Berant Zhu, who said that the moment that struck him the most is Danger Zone’s prison scene, where the space “was very limited.” Explaining more about the scene, he said: “[The scene] was a very important opening, and it was my first time to meet with Vic Chou on the set. We had to maneuver in this limited space, and then capture that scene. It was a very intense and memorable scene.”

Another cast member who talked about going the extra mile for the show is Sandrine Pinna, who had to cut her hair short for her character, Yu-lu Yang. She also explained that what attracted her to playing Yu-lu is how she’s a huge diversion from her previous roles. “In my previous works, my roles are normally very enthusiastic and passionate,” she said. “But this time, my role is more sophisticated and has more conspiracy in mind.”
