Erik Matti’s OTJ: The Missing 8

On the Job: The Missing 8 — the sequel to Erik Matti’s 2013 film — has finally premiered at the 78th Venice Film Festival! The film centers on John Arcilla’s Sisoy Salas, a corrupt reporter for a local newspaper who is forced to investigate the disappearances of his colleagues. Meanwhile, Dennis Trillo’s Roman Rubio, an inmate who is released from prison to carry out assassinations, is sentenced to life in prison for a crime he did not commit. Not wanting to live his life as a hitman, he plans his way to regain his freedom.

Arcilla bagged the Coppi Volpi for Best Actor at the film festival for his performance in the film. On the Job is now streaming on HBO GO.

Malignant

Aside from Marvel’s Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, another film that made its debut last week is James Wan’s Malignant. The film centers on a young woman named madison who is terrified by visions of the murders of strangers. Her torment worsens when she discovers that her dreams are actually happening in reality.

It stars Annabelle Walis, Maddie Hasson, George Young, Briana White, Jake Abel, and more.

Demon Slayer, Season 2

Demon Slayer fans are in for a treat as the anime series Demon Slayer returns for season 2 this October. The season will be coming in two parts, with the second one premiering in early 2022. The season will be picking up after the events of Mugen Train, and will be introducing Tengen Uzui — the Sound Hashira. It will continue to follow Tanjiro, Nezuko, Inosuke, and Zenitsu as they travel Yoshiwara’s famed red-light district to find a demon that’s been terrorizing the area and its people.

While waiting for the new season, you can watch the first season of Demon Slayer, as well as Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train, which are both streaming on Netflix.

The Matrix Resurrections

From Lana Wachowski comes The Matrix Resurrections, the long-awaited fourth film in the famous franchise. Not much has been revealed about the film, but what we do know is that it will be starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, and more.

 The film will be distributed worldwide, including the Philippines, by Warner Bros. Pictures.  

Kate

Mary Elizabeth Winstead star in the Netflix action film Kate, which premiered on the streaming site last week. Kate is a film about a finely tuned assassin named Kate, who’s at the height of her game. However, when she blows an assignment targeting a member of the yakuza in Tokyo, she discovers she has been poisoned and that she has less than 24 hours to take revenge on her killers. She then forms a bond with the teenage daughter of one of her past victims to pursue one last self-appointed job.
