After giving us a glimpse of Mei and her red panda form back in July, Disney and Pixar have finally released the official trailer for their upcoming animated film Turning Red, set to premiere in cinemas on March 2022. The film comes from the director who gave us the Pixar short film, which won the Academy Award for Best Short Film back in 2019.
Watch the teaser below:
Turning Red centers on a confident and dorky 13-year-old girl named Mei Lee, who is torn between becoming the chaotic adolescent she is and staying as the dutiful daughter of her protective mother, who’s never far from her. As if the changes to her interests, relationship, and body weren’t enough for Mei, she also finds out that she “poofs” into a giant red panda whenever she gets too excited.
The animated film comes from director Domee Shi, who won the Academy Award for Best Short Film for his film Bao. Lending her voice to Mei is Rosalia Chiang, and she is joined by Sandra Oh, Orion Lee, Wai Ching Ho, Jordan Fisher, Josh Levi, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and more.
According to Variety, it will also be featuring new songs by Bille Eilish and Finneas, who contributed to writing and producing songs for 4*Town, the fictional boy band in the film.
Turning Red opens in cinemas this March 11, 2022. For more information, you may visit the film’s official Disney website.
