Netflix’s Live-Action ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ has Found its Big Bad, Fire Lord Ozai

Avatar: The Last Airbender has plenty of iconic characters, but when it comes to the villains, Fire Lord Ozai is definitely the most intimidating baddie. After all, Aang’s training throughout the entire series was to defeat the terrifying tyrant from the Fire Nation.

Now, Netflix has finally found the actor who will play the role of the power-hungry Fire Lord for their live-action adaptation of the series– the Lost and Hellboy star Daniel Dae Kim. The actor will be joining the cast lineup that Netflix announced last August, which includes Filipino-Canadian star Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Zuko.

In the original Nickelodeon series from creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, Fire Lord Ozai is the leader of the Fire Nation who disrupted the peace between all four nations when he decided to conquer the world. He is also the father of the fan-favorite Prince Zuko and the ruthless Princess Azula.

To bring back the balance in the world, the young Avatar Aang must master the bending of all four elements– air, water. earth, and fire– to defeat Fire Lord Ozai and his army.

Mark Hamill voiced the animated Fire Lord Ozai, while Daniel Dae Kim was also part of the original voice cast, lending his voice to General Fong of the Earth Kingdom.

Albert Kim serves as the showrunner and writer for the upcoming live-action series. It will be directed by Michael Goi, Roseanne Liang, and Jabbar Raisani. Its release date is yet to be revealed.
